Benapole, March 16, 2024 (BD Runner): 400 tonnes of potatoes were imported from India in two days through Benapole port in Sharsha district. Besides rice, pulses, wheat, eggs, onions and green chillies, the government has allowed the import of potatoes.
Aziz Khan, Revenue Officer of the Checkpost Cargo Branch of Benapole Port, confirmed the import of 400 tons of potatoes in 16 trucks in two days through Petrapole Port of India.
The importer of potatoes is Integrated Food and Beverage. The port authority said that the exporting company is India’s PepsiCo India Holdings. A company named Transmarine C&F Agent has submitted the necessary documents to clear the potato shipment from the port.
Masum Billa, the representative of Transmarine Logistics Limited C&F agent, said that 400 tons of potatoes were imported in 16 Indian trucks last Wednesday and Thursday. The import cost of each ton of potatoes is 194 US dollars. He said that the potato shipment would be cleared tomorrow Sunday. Before that, 74 tons of potatoes were imported in three trucks on December 2.
Rezaul Karim, director of Benapole land port, said, “400 tons of potatoes have been imported through Benapole port in two shipments. The potato shipment is still at the port. Importers are being assisted for quick clearance.
Hemant Kumar Sarkar, deputy assistant officer of the port’s plant control centre, said 400 tonnes of potatoes were imported from India at the port. After submitting the necessary documents on behalf of the importer, the release will be allowed after testing the quality of the potatoes.
