Chittagram, March 23, 2024 (BDRunner): The main objective of BNP is to destabilize the country’s market and increase the price of goods by calling for a boycott of Indian products. This will cause the suffering of the people in the country and increase the price of goods. Last Saturday (March 23) afternoon at Chittagong Circuit House, after the speech of the chief guest at the coordination meeting regarding the implementation of development activities of the government in Chittagong district, the foreign minister said these things when reporters asked about the government’s position on the call of a boycott of Indian products by some groups including BNP.
Foreign Minister and Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League. Hasan Mahmud said that many products in Bangladesh, starting from consumer goods, come from India. We have thousands of kilometres of border with India and some border trade is also done legally. actually
Addressing the BNP leaders, the foreign minister said, “You will eat onion from India, your leader will wear a saree from India, your leader who shouts in the field will also wear an Indian saree, you will eat sehri iftar with beef from India, a few days ago they The leader went to India for treatment. Go to India for treatment. Again you will call for a boycott of Indian products. These are nothing but hypocrisy. The real objective of BNP is to increase the price of goods by destabilizing the market in the country.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, along with those who called for the boycott of Indian products, Mr. Rizvi burnt his shawl. I don’t know if the shawl was bought from India or Bangabazar.
When asked what kind of role the government is playing in rescuing hostage ships and sailors from Somali pirates, the foreign minister said, the last time when MV Jahan Moni was hijacked, it took 100 days to free them. Now we are trying to free them as soon as possible. We are trying to rescue the sailors and ships staying here so that there is no harm.
He said, ‘There is coal in the ship, coal is a flammable substance. So nothing can be done which could endanger the combustible material, and damage the ship. That’s the way we are going and those who hijacked the ship have already contacted the owner authorities, international organizations are also cooperating with us in this regard and you will know if you talk to the families of the sailors they are also very safe. Hopefully, we will be able to rescue the sailors soon.’
In Chittagong’s development coordination meeting, there was a detailed discussion on the drainage project and we have given importance to the coordination of the drainage project. Hasan said, two and a half years are left for the completion of the project. We discussed the importance of ensuring that the people do not suffer during this two-and-a-half-year period. At the same time, we also discussed the importance of regular maintenance after the completion of this project.
He said you will be happy to know that today the Chittagong Port Authority has informed you that the Prime Minister has already handed over five hundred acres of land to the Chittagong Port Authority free of charge for the Bay-Terminal. They will get more than three hundred acres of land, for which the port authority has applied. Chittagong Port has already signed a MoU with DP World and Singapore Port Authority.
He also said that the work will be done in three parts. One will be done by the Chittagong Port Authority, another by the Singapore Port Authority, and another by DP World. Other international financial institutions including the World Bank are also joining there. This is a big step forward.
The foreign minister said, if there is a bay terminal, it will be a new port bigger than the Chittagong port. This will be a new resource for the whole of Bangladesh and at the same time, we will be able to supply goods to the eastern states of India through this bay terminal. Besides, we have discussed in the coordination meeting many issues including stopping hill-cutting and de-congestion in Chittagong.
