Dhaka, April 27, 2024 (BDRunner) : President Md Sahabuddin said that it is very important to make the practice of health and safety rules in the workplace a national culture according to the domestic and global labor standards to ensure a pleasant working environment. To achieve this goal, he called on all development stakeholders including the government, owners, and workers to work together.
The President made this call in a message today on ‘National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2024’.
Tomorrow Sunday (April 28) is ‘National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2024’. He expressed his satisfaction knowing that the ‘National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2024’ is being celebrated this year as well by the Ministry of Labor and Employment to create widespread public awareness about occupational health and safety. The President extended his sincere greetings and congratulations to all the working people of the world on this occasion. He also thinks that the theme of this year’s day – ‘Healthy workers, beautiful working environment: will build a smart Bangladesh’ has been correct.
Md. Sahabuddin said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman worked hard to uplift the exploited and deprived people. Under the leadership of Bangabandhu, Bangladesh became a member of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in 1972. In the same year, he (Bangabandhu) announced the Labor Policy and ratified 29 conventions including the 5 fundamental conventions of the ILO.
The President said that it is the moral responsibility of the government as well as all the industrial owners to ensure the proper management of the factories and the professional safety and legal rights of the working people. The government is implementing various welfare programs to ensure the occupational health and safety of the working people in all sectors of the country. ‘Bangladesh Labor Act 2006’ and ‘Bangladesh Labor Rules 2015’ have been enacted to ensure a safe and decent working environment.
He said that the government has undertaken a comprehensive development program to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals declared by the United Nations and to become a smart and developed economy by 2041. There is no alternative to ensure a decent and safe working environment for the labor brothers and sisters in the successful implementation of all these welfare programs and increasing the productivity of the workers. The number of industries in the country has increased manifold in the last decade. In order to build the smart Bangladesh of the future and to adapt to the future technology, government-employer-labourers should take joint initiatives. The working population should be skilled and enter the workplace through necessary training.
The President wished the success of all the programs adopted on the occasion of ‘National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2024’.
