First EVM election in Pabna, voters suffering

BDRunner, May 09: Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) voting is happening in three upazilas of Pabna in the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections. Wednesday (May 8) will start from 8 am until 4 pm. At this time, a long queue of voters was seen in voting centers.

In the morning several centers of Sujanagar, Charabhvanipur, Mathurapur High School, Pilot High School, Niugir Bangram, Satbaria, Bhayanar Chalna, Satbaria, Kadwa were seen, long queues of voters in front of the centers. However, due to repeated breakdowns of EVM machines, slowness in polling has been noticed.

Babu Pramanik cast his vote at Charabbanipur Government Primary School center in Sujanagar. He said this is the first time I voted in EVM. There was great interest in voting in EVMs. They are used to that system so there are some difficulties this system.It is very difficult to women. They are familiar this system so taking more time.

Assistant Presiding Officer Abu Saeed Charabbanipur Government Primary School Center said that the total number of male and female voters in this center is 5,400. 16 booths have been installed in the center. Around 200 votes have been cast till 9:30 am. So far the voting is going on peacefully.

He was returning home after voting. Taib Ali He said, I was able to vote without any trouble. We were apprehensive whether we would be able to go to the polling station or not. But I am coming to the polling station without any problem. I voted for my favorite candidates.

Md. Salim Reza said, closed the shop and came to vote at eight in the morning. Even though it was ten o’clock in the morning, I could not vote due to EVM complications.

Sujanagar Pilot Model School Assistant Officer Mohammad Ashraf Ali said that the number of voters in this center is 2 thousand 594. By 10 am, 27 votes have been cast. Sometimes machines are sent to other booths due to problems. That’s why many voters are standing in line for a long time at the center.

Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Alam said that BGB and police forces are on the ground to ensure peaceful polling in three upazilas of Pabna. Apart from this, RAB, Ansar members and plainclothes law enforcement personnel are deployed.

Pabna District Commissioner Md. Asaduzzaman said, along with the striking force, necessary executive magistrates have been appointed. We hope voters can exercise their right to vote in a peaceful environment.
