Idol vandalized again at Chatmohar in Pabna

BDRunner, Nove 12: – After two months, idols were vandalized again in Chatmohar temple in Pabna. This time some angry local people vandalized the idol of the temple by insulting the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

The incident took place in Ballabpur village of Handyal Union of Chatmohar Upazila on Sunday (November 10) night. However, after the incident, the police could not arrest anyone involved in the incident. The leaders of the Hindu community have expressed so much anger.

After the incident, the police arrested two people on the charge of vandalism. Later, the local crowd surrounded the police outpost and started a protest demanding the release of the detainees. At one point, when the detainees were released, the local residents withdrew the siege program. However, the police say that those arrested were released as they were not involved in the incident.

Prabir Kumar Dutta Chaitanya, general secretary of Chatmohar Upazila Puja Celebration Parishad, said that Prashant Kumar Sarkar (25), son of Kala Sarkar of Ballabpur village of Handyal Union of the upazila, posted a status insulting the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on Facebook on November 9. The people of that area got angry and took out a protest procession that afternoon and night and warned the Hindu community businessmen not to open their business establishments. Due to this, the situation prevailed in the area all day on Sunday.

At around 8 pm, several people took a protest march and attacked the Mahadev temple in Ballabpur area and vandalized the idol. This spread fear among the Hindu community in the area. Later, army, RAB and police personnel went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Reduanul Halim said that the temple authorities have been advised to file a case with the police station. Since the attack on the temple took place during the procession, the suspected accused will remain in the procession. Those who can be identified by looking at the video footage of the procession, will be arrested and brought under the law.

Chatmohar Circle ASP Habibul Islam said that after the incident, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Two people were arrested after the incident. But they were released as they were not involved in the incident.

It is to be noted that earlier on the night of September 9, miscreants vandalized three idols in Bhadra Kalimata temple in Handyal Paschimpara of Chatmohar upazila.one was arrested.
