BDRunner 04:- Ferry services have been temporarily suspended on the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway due to dense fog on the Padma River. The marker lights of the ferry became dim as the amount of fog increased on the waterway. As a result, ferry services have been temporarily suspended to avoid accidents. The authorities suspended ferry services on this waterway at around 6:30 am on Tuesday (December 31).
At around 7:15 am, Md. Salam Hossain, Manager of the Commerce Branch of the Aricha Office of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), confirmed the matter.
According to relevant sources, there was fog on the Padma River on the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway throughout the night on Monday. At that time, ferry masters operated ferries with caution on the waterway. However, due to the increase in the amount of fog on the river in the early hours of today, the marking lights of the ferry became dim. As a result, a ferry carrying vehicles and passengers was stranded in the middle of the Padma. Later, ferry services were temporarily suspended at around 6:30 am to avoid accidents on the waterway. As ferry services were suspended, more than a hundred vehicles are waiting to cross the waterway in both ferry ghat areas.
BIWTC Aricha office’s commerce branch manager Md. Salam Hossain said that ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway have been suspended due to dense fog on the river. Once the density of fog on the river decreases, ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia waterway will be resumed. Once ferry services are normal, the vehicles stuck in the ghat area will be allowed to cross serially.
