PABNA, Jan 22:- A CNG-powered autorickshaw and a rickshaw were crushed by the engine of a shunting train (train for moving bogies) in Ishwardi, Pabna. Four people were injured in the incident. The accident occurred in the Railgate area of the municipal town on Tuesday night.
Eyewitness Abdul Halim said that he was sitting in a shop adjacent to the railgate. The railgate was open when the train was shunting. Even after the engine approached the railgate, the gateman did not lower the gate. At that time, a power trolley crossed in front of the engine at a risk. Shortly after, the CNG-powered autorickshaw and rickshaw were severely damaged by the engine.
Among the injured, rickshaw puller Tofail Ahmed said, “I was crossing with my rickshaw when I saw the railgate open. Suddenly, the engine came and hit the rickshaw. I fell down along with the rickshaw on the side of the railway line.’
In this regard, Shah Sufi Nur Mohammad, Pakshi Divisional Manager (DRM) of the Western Railway, said, ‘The matter is under investigation. If found guilty, appropriate action will be taken against the lockmaster and gateman.’
