BDRunner JAN 25: – Information and Broadcasting Advisor Md. Nahid Islam has said that the influence of youth in Bangladesh’s politics and society will continue for the next two decades as a result of the July mass uprising.
Information advisor said further said emerged through the massive mass uprising will greatly influence the state, politics and society for at least the next two decades through their thoughts, ideas and actions.”
Nahid, who led the anti-discrimination student movement during the July mass uprising, said that despite lack of experience and other limitations, the youth want to contribute to the country in every possible way.
He said that the whole world is now witnessing how Bangladesh’s young generation is contributing to the country’s reconstruction after the fall of the long-standing dictatorship.
Nahid, who also serves as an advisor to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and ICT, said, “They (the youth) are ready to take on responsibility and prepare themselves for the future.”
He expressed hope that the trust and confidence placed in them by the people will be further strengthened in the coming days.
Nahid gave this interview on the eve of the two-month-long Youth Festival 2025, which is being celebrated across the country under the auspices of the Office of the Chief Advisor in memory of the martyrs of the July uprising, calling for building national unity.
The festival, ‘Come Change the Country, Change the World,’ aims to build unity, support the contributions of local heroes and changemakers, bring them to the forefront, and promote the principle of cooperation.
The information advisor said, “The sacrifice and resistance of the youth in 2024 to overthrow fascism has set an inspiring example not only for Bangladesh but for the entire world.”
Nahid also said that the government wants to work with the youth and develop them as a political generation.
“We are representatives of that young society. We want to develop the young generation as a political generation that will lead the future Bangladesh,” he said.
He said that historically, students have continuously played a leading role in the country’s most important moments and have taken the nation forward, and the ‘2024 Revolution’ stands as the latest example of this long-standing legacy.
“People around the world expect Bangladeshi youth to play a significant role in establishing democracy, building a society free of discrimination, and protecting human dignity,” the advisor said.
Nahid said that the issue of youth employment has become a central priority of the interim government and therefore the government is continuing its efforts to create jobs and encourage entrepreneurs in line with the call for a mass uprising.
He recalled that the mass uprising began with demands related to jobs and employment.
Nahid said that due to the lack of a proper education system, the nation has witnessed a significant decline in social progress in the last 16 years and therefore the government must also focus on improving the country’s education sector.
