PABA, Sept 04:- Farmers are showing interest in irrigation-efficient Aush paddy cultivation. The Agriculture Department expects farmers to achieve a good yield this year due to favorable monsoon and weather conditions. Farmers also believe that due to early rainfall, the cost of supplementary irrigation will be lower and the incidence of pests and diseases will be reduced. This year, in addition to planting Aush, the cultivation of Aush has also increased. According to the District Agriculture Office, Aush paddy has been planted on 22,275 hectares of land in 9 upazilas of the district.

Abdul Hamid, a farmer from Malanchi Union in the district headquarters, said that this year he has cultivated Aush paddy on 10 bighas of land. The District Agriculture Officer and Upazila Agriculture Officer are advising us to increase the production of other crops, including paddy, during the monsoon season. “I hope to achieve a good yield this year, provided there are no natural disasters. Yields will exceed 20 manats per bigha”.

Alhaj Maharram Hossain, a farmer from Bhadra village in Mathurapur union of Chatmohar upazila, stated that the cost of producing Aush paddy is lower than in other seasons, making it relatively more profitable. I have cultivated the high-yielding Bri-Phan 85 variety of Aush paddy from the agriculture office. This demonstration of the revenue project has been more successful than that of other farmers.

Abdur Rahim, a farmer from Gohailbari village in Santhia upazila, said that this year he has cultivated Aush paddy on six bighas of land. He hopes that the yield is good and that he will be profitable if he receives the right price for the paddy he produces.

Deputy Assistant Plant Protection Officer Monirul Islam stated that, as a result of raising awareness among farmers about crop diseases and pests during the current season, they have taken timely steps, and no such pest attacks have been observed in Aush paddy. With our guidance, farmers will be able to achieve good yields by cultivating it using modern methods.

Chatmohar Upazila Agriculture Officer Kuntala Ghosh said that this year, the cultivation of the Ufsi variety Aush rice has expanded in Chatmohar Upazila. Under the incentive program, free chemical fertilizers and seeds were provided to 1100 farmers in the upazila, which has increased the cultivation of Aush rice. I think that if the weather is favorable during the rice harvest, the farmers will make good profits.

Md. Jahangir Alam Pramanik, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Khamar Bari, Pabna, stated that based on the Aush yield, we expect 3.5 metric tons of rice to be produced per hectare. Due to the moderate monsoon this year, there was no additional expenditure on irrigation, which resulted in increased interest in Aush cultivation among farmers. We also provide high-quality seeds, raise awareness about the use of pesticides, and offer regular advice to farmers, enabling them to play a pivotal role in food production in the country while benefiting from our efforts.
