PABNA, Feb 03:- Keeping the upcoming national elections in mind, the campaigning has reached its peak in the 5 constituencies of Pabna district.
A total of 28 candidates, including nominees of nine parties, including BNP, Jamaat, Islami Andolan, and independent candidates, are in the field. Of these, 3 independent candidates are contesting in 3 constituencies. Since the announcement of the final candidate list and allocation of symbols, the candidates have been running door to door with their leaders, workers and supporters. The candidates are now sleepless to win the hearts of about 2.3 million voters across the district’s 5 constituencies. Everyone is busy with processions, meetings, yard meetings, miking, and distributing leaflets. Since there are no paper posters in this election, the general voters are being attracted through banner festoons.
According to various political analyses and general polling data, although there is a fight between BNP and Jamaat in 4 out of 5 seats in the district, there is a possibility of a three-way fight in one seat. Both BNP and Jamaat have entered the field with the challenge of restoring one of the five seats in the district to take control of it. We will have to wait until February 12 to see who will win the seats.
This seat is made up of Pabna-1 Santhia Upazila. Jamaat has had influence in this seat for the past. The Jamaat candidate here is Mohammad Nazibur Rahman, son of Jamaat’s former Ameer, late Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami. Md. Shamsur Rahman is contesting as the BNP candidate. The constituency, which has grown in size, has not only boosted the number of voters but also heightened its importance. Although there are 5 candidates in this constituency, the main competition will be between BNP and Jamaat. Former NP A, K, M, Selim Reza Habib has been nominated for this constituency and Md. Hesab Uddin from Jamaat. In addition, Sheikh Nasir Uddin from Gono Forum, Md. Mehedi Hasan Rubel from Jatiya Party, and Md. Afzal Hossain Khan Qashemi from Islami Andolon are also competing here.

According to voters, there is a possibility of a three-way fight in this constituency this time. There will be a competitive fight between BNP and Jamaat candidates and BNP’s rebel (independent) candidate. However, Zakaria Pintu has become a BNP rebel (independent) candidate in this constituency. Having been a rebel candidate in the past, the constituency has been lost to BNP since 1996.
