Prime Minister directed to discover new jute products and find markets abroad

BDrunner Mar 14:- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed all concerned to discover new jute products and find new markets abroad to speed up the possibility of building ‘Golden Bangladesh’.

“Invent new jute products and find new markets abroad to increase exports as there is a huge market for eco-friendly products (at home and abroad),” he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while officially inaugurating six jute mills and the ‘Multiple Jute Fair-2024’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital today on the occasion of National Jute Day. On the occasion, he announced that his government would provide an incentive package for jute as an agricultural and export product.

Sheikh Hasina said, many markets are waiting for us. Multipurpose production and use of jute should be ensured. Jute is agricultural product, and raw material for industry. Export is also done. It does not get incentives for agriculture, nor does it get incentives for exports. I will give recognition and incentives to agricultural and export-oriented products that are eco-friendly.

The Prime Minister called on all concerned to take proper care of the jute sector to ensure financial benefits for both entrepreneurs and the country.

He said, ‘I am telling everyone involved in jute, I have handed over a wealth to you, take advantage of it. With its proper use, you and the country will benefit economically.

He urged those who have leased jute mills to honor their promise to bring in foreign investors in the sector and jointly operate the mills.

The Prime Minister said that they will keep an eye on the proper management of jute mills.

He said, I believe that golden fiber will play a big role in building golden bangla. will further accelerate our prosperity. The hunger of the father of the nation will be helpful in building a poverty-free and prosperous Bangladesh. For this reason, we will take various initiatives for the versatile use of jute.

The Prime Minister said that many jute mills were unprofitable. I have closed them and given fair dues to the workers. I did not give full cash. I saved the family.

Calling upon everyone to focus on the production of exportable jute products, the Prime Minister said that it is your responsibility to discover new products and create new markets. There is a need to focus on diversification of jute products and what else can be made from them.

He said, Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) was established in 2002 under the supervision of Ministry of Textiles and Jute. About 650 private entrepreneurs have already been created through JDPC. These entrepreneurs are marketing and exporting about 282 types of jute products. At present, raw jute exports have a potential income of US$ 700-800 per ton, traditional jute yarn exports have a potential income of US$ 1000-1250 per ton, jute products have a potential of US$ 2000-3000 per ton and value-added versatile jute products have a potential of US$ 8000 per ton. – It is estimated that it will be possible to earn 12000 US dollars.

Apart from jute yarn, sacks, chaats, carpet products, curtain fabrics, cushion covers, carpets, sarees are also made from jute. Can be mixed with wool to make warm clothes. High quality carbon is being produced from jute chalk. Cosmetics, medicines, dyes can be made from jute fiber. Jute chalk is also used to make particle board, paper pulp and paper as an alternative to bamboo and wood.

Recently, a method of making jute polymer from jute has been discovered, making ‘golden bags’ an alternative to polythene bags. He also called for the initiative to quickly expand the use of golden bags.
