DHAKA, March 25, (BDRunner): King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan was accorded a red carpet welcome at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport in Dhaka.
President Md. Sahabuddin and his wife Dr. King and Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan were greeted with flowers shortly after Rebecca Sultana landed at the airport.
Earlier, the special plane carrying the King and Queen of Bhutan and their entourage arrived at the airport at 10:11 am.
21 gunshots are fired after the king disembarks as part of the reception for state guests. Later a smart contingent of armed forces saluted the guest.
After the President of Bangladesh and King Abhinandan of Bhutan stood on the stage, the two countries’ national anthems were played. Later the King visited the parade.
In continuation of the program, President Sahabuddin introduced the Bangladesh delegation waiting in the presentation line. On the other hand, introduced the King of Bhutan and his representatives.
At that time, members of the Council of Ministers, three army chiefs, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Secretaries of the President’s Office, and military and civil officers were present.
Minister of Liberation War A. K. M. Mozammel Haque, Minister of Interior Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Hasan Mahmud, and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Arafat were present.
President Md. The king and queen of Bhutan have come to Dhaka on a 4-day state visit at the special invitation of Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Apart from participating in the grand Independence Day celebrations, they will attend various events.
Bhutan’s relationship with Bangladesh is historical. Bhutan was the first country to recognise the great independence of Bangladesh on December 6, 1971.
After 11 long years, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan came to Dhaka to attend the great Independence Day ceremony of Bangladesh.
Earlier, the King and Queen visited Bangladesh in 2013.
On reaching Dhaka, Raja will first go to Dhanmondi No. 32. There he will pay tribute to the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. From there Raja will go to Hotel Intercontinental.
Raja Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will visit the Prime Minister’s Office at 12:30 PM on Monday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will welcome him. Later, the two will meet privately for some time.
After that, the King and the Prime Minister will attend a formal meeting with the representatives of the two countries. The overall aspects of bilateral relations will be discussed in the meeting.
According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he will leave Dhaka on March 28.
