Egg production has started to decrease.

Yesterday Wednesday (April 24) at noon in Jotgacha village of Maligacha Union of Pabna Sadar Upazila, it was seen that there are many broiler and layer chicken farms in the village. Employees are busy taking care of the chickens on the farm. Some are spraying water on chickens, some are collecting eggs. An electric fan is running to keep the farm cool. But that doesn’t work either. The chickens are panting in the heat.

Poultry farm worker Anisur Rahman said that since the start of summer, the chickens have started scurrying on the farm. The room is not cooling even with fan air. Water is sprinkled on the body of the chicken several times a day. Still, the chickens are dying. They have two thousand chickens on their farm. At least 40 chickens have died in the past week. Last Saturday 8 chickens died.

Food is also being given less as advised by Animal Husbandry Department. It reduces egg production. Chickens are dying of heat stroke.

Zahidul Islam, a farmer of Chandbha village of Atgharia upazila, said, “If I stay in such heat, I will die.” I am very worried. As the chickens are dying, it has not become difficult to keep the chickens in such hot weather. I didn’t have to sit on the road.

Abdur Rahim, a chicken trader in Dublia, Pabna said, “We have benefited because of the huge demand for chicken for a few days. Now the chickens are dying in the sun. So making and selling at low price. We have to count heavy losses in this sun.

The attention of the District Livestock Officer Gaurang Kumar Talukder was drawn in this regard. He said that the livestock department is giving various suggestions to the farmers including distribution of leaflets to protect the farm from extreme heat.

He said that they are being told to spread water on the tin rice in the farmhouse, sprinkle water on the chickens, and give more vitamin C food to the chickens along with saline. On the other hand, it is advised not to give food in the afternoon during excessive heat.
