Thousands of minority Hindu community members staged massive protest rallies on Saturday, the second consecutive day, demanding protection amid nationwide vandalism that saw attacks on temples and their households and businesses.
Demanding special tribunals to expedite trials of those who persecute the minorities, allocation of 10 per cent parliamentary seats for the minorities, and enactment of a minority protection law among others, the Hindu demonstrators’ rally blocked traffic for over three hours at Pabna main road.
The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, Bangladesh Pujaudjapon Parisad, Hindu Mohajote, Hindu Jubo Mohajte and other Hindu organizations joined the rally from different upazilas of the district.
Provash Bhadra president of Bangladesh Pujaudjapon parishad, Dr. Oishi Ghosh, Ashish Basa of Hindu Mohajote, and youth leader Dipankar Sarker Dipu spoke at the rally and demanded seven points to the interim government of Bangladesh.
However, it also expressed profound sorrow and concern over the violent actions of certain groups against minorities, which have marred these achievements.
