Online Desk, March 26: Mujib is erasing the ‘new’ Bangladesh. The statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been vandalized in various places. Mujib’s house in Dhanmondi has been demolished. Even the definition of a freedom fighter is being changed by the government of Muhammad Yunus. In addition, India’s contribution to the Liberation War is being belittled in textbooks, which is highly controversial. In this situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to Yunus. In which he has made it clear how much India’s contribution was to the Liberation War.
Today, March 26 is the Independence Day of Bangladesh. On this day, Modi sent a message to Yunus, greeting all the citizens of neighboring countries. In the letter, he wrote, ‘On the occasion of the National Day of Bangladesh, I extend my greetings to you and the people of Bangladesh. This day is a symbol of the history and sacrifice of our two countries. This day has laid the foundation of our bilateral partnership. The spirit of the Liberation War of Bangladesh continues to serve as a guide for our relations. Which have developed in various fields. This day is also historic for the people of our country. We are committed to taking this partnership forward for peace, stability, prosperity and based on mutual sensitivity to each other’s interests and concerns.’ In other words, in this message, Modi reminded Yunus of the importance of the Liberation War and India’s contribution.
Indira Gandhi was in the Indian parliament in 1971. On the other hand, East Pakistan was fighting with West Pakistan at that time. If Indira had not been there that day, if India had not stood by the freedom fighters, historians have doubts about whether today’s Bangladesh would have been on the map of the world. Thousands of Indian soldiers joined the Liberation War for East Pakistan that day. But today, Yunus’ Bangladesh is denying this very contribution of India. The new textbook has downplayed India’s contribution to the Liberation War. Two historical photos of Mujib and Indira have been removed. The mention of Sheikh Hasina has also been deleted. Mujib’s role has also been reduced in the curriculum.
Incidentally, the Yunus government has proposed to cancel the Liberation War certificates of hundreds of leaders, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The very definition of who the freedom fighters are is being changed. Since the fall of Sheikh Hasina, efforts have been made to narrate the history of the Liberation War in the ‘New Bangladesh’. That is why, to erase Mujib, a hall at Chittagong University has been named after Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, a notorious mass murderer Razakar. Hizb ut-Tahrir militants are seen roaming the streets of Dhaka. The Ansarullah Bangla Team has bared its teeth and nails. Analysts say that the Yunus government is trying to prove that the real Razakars are freedom fighters by belittling the freedom fighters.
