Online Report: -Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called on all government and non-government institutions and organizations, media, guardians, and the civil society to come forward to prevent the incurable disease thalassemia.
In a message given today on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day, he said, “Like every year, this year too, I am happy to know that Bangladesh Thalassemia Association is observing World Thalassemia Day on May 8.”
The Chief Advisor said, “Thalassemia is a hereditary anemia-related, incurable disease. The number of carriers of this disease is high in Bangladesh. If both husband and wife are thalassemia gene carriers, there is a risk of their children becoming thalassemia patients. Therefore, it is important to know whether both men and women are carriers of this disease before marriage. I think that observing World Thalassemia Day can play a significant role in increasing public awareness in this regard.’
He said, the current interim government is taking various activities to develop the health sector with the aim of building a healthy and functional population. Activities are being further strengthened to increase the quality and capacity of hospitals across the country and to provide free health, family welfare and nutrition services to the marginalized population. Medical services have been introduced at the district and upazila levels through mobile phones and online platforms.
Professor Muhammad Yunus said, the current interim government is committed to sustainable reforms in the health sector to provide affordable and quality healthcare at the doorsteps of the people.
The Chief Advisor wished the overall success of all the programs organized on the occasion of World Thalassemia Day.
