The protest march, organised by the Committee for the Protection of the Interests of the Legal Settlements on the Banks of the Ichamati River, began in the afternoon from the Freedom Fighter Rafiqul Islam Bakul Swadhinata Chattar. The procession circled the main roads of the city and went to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to observe a sit-in strike. District BNP convener Habibur Rahman Habib, joint convener Anisul Haque Babu, Nur Mohammad Masum Baga, joint convener Abdullah Al Mamun Mannan Master, and Masudur Rahman Mintu spoke. The speakers said that since the 90s, their ancestors have been paying rent according to the rules.

There are four records of these lands; they do not know how this land is illegal. Let the river live, let the people live, but it is not desirable that the legal settlements on the riverbank are being illegally evicted. They demanded the acquisition of their settlement land and compensation. For this, they sought the government’s intervention. Later, the legal residents of the riverbank submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mofizul Islam.
