BDRunner,Sept 12:-
Former US diplomat John Kerry has said that America is putting unnecessary pressure on New Delhi. And he also said that it is miserable. He slammed President Donald Trump over strained relations with India.
He said, “We are concerned about the whole incident. This conflict between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Modi is unfortunate. Great countries come to peaceful coexistence through diplomatic talks. They do not show greatness to people by setting deadlines.” This US official, who served during the administration of President Barack Obama, said, “During Obama’s era, any problem was solved through cooperation and mutual respect. However, there is now a little too much pressure. Too much order is given.” He added, “I hope this dispute between the two countries will end soon. India is being quite restrained.”
Incidentally, the US president has imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India. In his words, “India continues to buy oil from Russia. As a punishment, additional taxes have been imposed on Indian products.” This means that this time, America will impose a total duty of 50 percent on Indian products. After Trump’s announcement, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs issued a lengthy statement. It said, “For the past few days, America has targeted India’s oil imports from Russia. We have already made our position clear on this issue. Imports are made keeping in mind the market situation and the energy needs of the country’s 1.4 billion people.” Taking a dig at the US President, the Ministry of External Affairs further said, “Many other countries are doing the same thing, thinking about their national interests. But America is imposing additional duties only on India, which is quite unfortunate. Opposing the US decision, I would like to say that this decision is unfair, unreasonable, and unjust. India will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests.”
